God is Eternal

Eternity of God is the everlasting existences of His power, love, peace and happiness. He was eternal before the creation of the world; He is eternal now and will be forever! His eternity is in His Trinity; the Holy Father, the Holy Son and the Holy Spirit. It is in this mystery that we, His children can comprehend His eternity.

Understanding God’s external existence is essential for all human races. We have read of humans whom have misinterpreted this mystery and even misled others in Holy Scriptures. Foremost to be mention is Arius the traitor. One of the mistakes Arius made was denying the Son’s eternity. He taught, “There was a time when there was no Holy Son.” However, the Fathers of Nicaea taught about the incarnated Son, who was incarnated in the Word of God, was with the Father before the creation of the world, and that He was the first and only begotten Son of the Father. The Bible clearly teaches about the Holy Son Lord Jesus Christ who was with the Father before and after his incarnation. The Apostle Saint John says of this, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” (John 1:1)

Saint John also informed us about this Word which was with God before the creation of the world and the Word was with God. Our Lord Jesus Christ Himself stated that He lived before the birth of our Lady and taught, Jesus said to them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I AM.” (John 8:58)

The testimony of the prophets about the eternity of the Lord Jesus is also in scripted in the Holy Bible. In Isaiah’s prophecy, he described the incarnate God as “For to us a Child is born, to us a Son is given; and the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” (Isaiah 9: 6)

The eternal God is the only begotten Son of the Father, who was in the beginning with the Father. There is no other like the Father and there will not be other like Him. Although Adam was called the Son of God, this was not by nature, but by grace. But this father-son relationship did not lead to the breakdown of time; there is no time, place of the Father that the Son did not know and did not exist. “No one knows the Son except the Father. Nor does anyone know the Father except the Son, and the one to whom the Son wills to reveal Him.” (Matthew 11:27)
This gospel shows us that just as the Father fully reveals the Son, so the Son can fully express the Father. To use the parable of the crucifixion, it is not that Abraham preceded Isaac or that Abraham did not know or exist.

There is no such division between the Father and the Son; when we say why, as we have seen before in the Trinity, there is a Trinity of names, persons and endeavors. The Son is the eternal Word of the Father. That is why in John 17: 5 is stated, “O Father, glorify Me together with Yourself, with the glory which I had with You before the world was. For God was with God, and he lived forever in glory.”

In this passage, the Lord prayed for His disciples that the eternal unity and fellowship between the Father and Him would be manifested in the lives of His disciples. (John 17: 20-23)

May The Eternal God grant us eternal life, Amen!
