Coptic Pope Tawadros II in Rare Visit to Jerusalem

Egypt’s Coptic Pope Tawadros II arrived in Jerusalem on Thursday for the funeral of a senior cleric, the first visit by the head of Coptic Christians in decades, the church said. He attended the funeral of Archbishop Anba Abraham, the head of the Coptic Church in the Holy Land, who died on Wednesday at the age of 72.

According to the Christian Orthodox Church, Saint Michael is one of the seven primary Arch angels, who is always standing besides God’s throne and is honored for defeating Devil in the war in heaven at God’s command (Rev.12:7-9). His powerful and fastest aid has always been invoked by the Church in time of emergency and unusual danger. He is the guardian of the souls and fighter against evil. He is often painted in the walls of every Ethiopian Church with a flaming sword and spear, which pierces the devil.

Mahiber Kidasan’s (MK) Holy Places Development and Social Service Department announced the launch of the second round of Abba Giyorgis Zegasicha free scholarship and training award at a ceremony held last week, on November 8, 2015 at Semein Hotel. The event was also aimed at raising the needed fund for the scholarship program run under the theme ውስተ፡ አዕጻዲነ : ኵሉ፡ አቅማሕ : ሐዲስ : ምስለ : ብሉይ፡፡ At our gates are all manner of pleasant fruits, new and old) (Song 7:14).

The Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahido Church makes its regular Holy Synod meeting twice in a year in accordance with the Church’s book of Fitha Negest, Article 5, and Sub-article 164. Accordingly, it has run its first meeting starting on October 22 to November, 2015 for twelve days. The Holy Synod opened the session with prayer to discuss on the following agenda:

Part One: Introduction

The season which starts on the 26th of the first month of the Ethiopian calendar, the month of Meskerem (or October 6th in the other years and October 7th  in the leap year) and stays for 40 days is a season assigned for the commemoration of the migration of the Holy Family: Jesus, Mary His mother, the old Joseph and Salome. In the Ethiopian Orthodox Church liturgical calendar, the season is known by the name “Season of Flower” (ዘመነ ጽጌ).
