The Fast of the Assumption of Saint Mary

One of the seven canonized fasts of the Ethiopian church, The Fast of the Assumption of Saint Mary is observed as a remembrance of the fast the apostles held in passion of witnessing the falling asleep and assumption of Saint Mary. It takes place from August 7-22. Filseta literally meaning the movement in the Ge’ez language refers to Saint Mary’s assumption.

“Beware of the three cords of doom!” Abune Tekle Haimanot

Pride, Jealousy and Haughty, the three cords of doom lead humans to spiritual failure. Written on Proverb 16:18, “Pride goes before destruction and a haughty spirit before a fall.” Pride is what led to sinning. Righteous as he is, our father Abune Tekle Haimanot’s diligence within the monastery of Abba Bteselote Michael for ten years led to the servile in seeking their blessing and advice. He instructed them to, “Make virtue of patience, humility and the fear of God; These three things lead to eternal life. Beware that the three cords of doom that drag you down to the depths of the forest do not make you jealous, arrogant and conceited.”

“Fear sin but not death” Saint Jared

Death have no power over us, if not we lack faith. We shall win our fear and anxiety to exceed in life. Pain and sorrow are bearable, but the suffering of soul in hell is not. Though, we are recently facing death due to the cureless disease Corona, it is better to await for soul cure and eternal life.

““The name of the second river is the Psihon; it skirts through the entire land of Cush” (Genesis, 2:13)

Heaven, a paradise of righteous dwelling, there flows four rivers, Ephesus, Pishon, Tigris, and Euphrates. A river watering the garden flowed from Eden; from there it was separated into four headwaters.  The name of the first is the Pishon; it skirts through the entire land of Havilah, where there is gold.  (The gold of that land is good; aromatic resin and onyx are also there.) The name of the second river is the Pishon; it winds through the entire land of Cush.  The name of the third river is the Tigris; it runs along the east side of Ashur. And the fourth river is the Euphrates.” (Genesis, 2:8-14)

Let us have lenient heart

Our heart’s desire for Love is its rate of purity and love is lenient. LORD Jesus Christ’s ideal love for children was witnessed upon the cross, his grieving for his leniency and salvation of all man kind. Whereas, Adam’s urged for forgiveness led LORD Jesus in giving his life.

“God that made the world and all things therein, seeing that he is Lord of heaven and earth, dwell not in temples made with hands” (Acts 17:24)

Athenians worshiping assorted witches made Apostle Paul furious and fuming. Qualm the existence in GOD, they curved sculptures and bow in front it by the Title of “The unknown GOD.” Watching them in irate he said, “God that made the world and all things therein, seeing that he is Lord of heaven and earth, dwell not in temples made with hands.” He preached for them to have faith in the Alpha and Omega, GOD. Saint Paul’s name signifying his Christ’s gulp of air, his deed wasn’t out of the ordinary; though theirs was inapt. (Acts 17:22-24)

“Thy word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my paths” (Psalm 118:105)

In this dark and cold world, where the destiny of human lays in a deep desire of life, a spark of light seems to be mans last hope for salvation. Turning back to the spiritual journey, it is clear how following the rule lead us all the way through. Just as Prophet David said, “Thy word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my paths” (Psalm 118:105)
