Saint little Cyriacus (Qirkos) and Julitta (Iyalota)

July 25, 2022

Dear Children of God, Greetings to you and gratitude to Almighty God!

Children, how are you? We hope you are well and good!

Today we are going to tell you the story about Saint Cyriacus (Qirkos) and his mother Julitta (Iyalota). So be with us!

Dear Children, Saint Cyriacus was a brave Christian who lived with his mother Julitta. They were living in peace but then one day heresies (non-Christian) governor came to power hometown and they had to fled from the country of Rome to another country.  There, she found the brother of the governor who was from the country she had fled. Then, some people told the governor about them being Christians and they were idols worshipers. So, the governor asked why they don’t worship the idol?  Saint Julitta answered and said to him, “Ask the child whose days are three years to tell us what is right, and whether it is good for us to worship the gods or not.”

When the soldiers of the governor went to her house they found Saint Cyriacus her son and they brought him to the governor. The governor questioned him about the worship of idols.  God gave the child strength. He spoke and cursed the emperor and his gods. At length he frightened all those who were there and they marveled greatly at him. The governor was ashamed, and he tortured (make suffer by biting, cutting, burning, boiling, and as such) the child severely with every kind of torture, which even a grown up man could not endure, and he tortured Julitta, the mother of the child, even as he tortured her son. But God raised them up uninjured by sending Saint Gabriel.  Because of this many people marveled, and believed on our Lord Jesus Christ, and became martyrs (die for the sake of God/going to heaven.) The grace of the Holy Spirit descended upon them.

The child Cyriacus healed many sick folk, and performed great miracles.   When fear came over his mother, and her faith reduced, he prayed to God on her behalf. God lifted up her heart to heaven, and she saw the habitation of the spirit. She then became strong under the torture, and gave thanks to God.  She said to her son, “O my son, from now on, you are my father, and I am your blessed daughter; blessed be the hour where I gave birth to you.”

When the governor was tired of torturing them, he commanded the soldiers to cut off their heads with the sword, and they did so. The mother and child Saints received the crown of martyrdom in the kingdom of the heavens.

Dear Children, we believe you have understood and like the story Saint Cyriacus and his mother Julitta and learn from them. This story teaches us about faith and spiritual strength. You have seen the strong faith of the three year old child Saint Cyriacus who didn’t fear beating and burning even by boiling water. He was the strength of his mother Julitta through their suffering and martyrdom advising to stay strong until the end the time till they reach heavenly sky.

Children of God, faith is very important in our Christian life. It is our strength to pass all the hardships in our lives until we leave this earth and enter heaven. If we live in faith, one day we will see our heavenly father God, who gives us everlasting happiness. So, we have to live in faith.

Farewell children,we end our lesson for now. Hope you stay well and in peace until we meet next time! Have a good time!
