Mariology

Mariology is the study about Holy Mother Saint Mary. In this first section, we will see her perpetual Virginity and honor.

Our Holy Mother Saint Mary’s virginity is twofold. She is virgin spiritually (eternally) and corporeally. She conceived and gave birth to her beloved Son our Lord Jesus Christ whilst being virgin. Saint Mary is the purest amongst all women ever created and thus become abode for God.

No creature is able too, but it was possible for Our Holy Mother Saint Mary. Even the four beasts, who carry His throne, could not become God’ abode. She was fit to be His mother as no sinful thought or act was ever made in her mind and holy life. Her entire life was in purity, holiness, humility and love.

Raised in the Holy temple beginning her three ages, Saint Mary was fed heavenly food until she had to leave out the sacred place for she became women at the age of 15. It was here they gave her for guardianship to the elderly Joseph.

It was not later but then Our Holy Mother Saint Mary was pronounced to be the mother of God by the Archangel Saint Gabriel. “And in the sixth month, that is to say the sixth month after the conception of Elisabeth, Gabriel was sent from God to a city on the borders of Galilee, the name of which was Nazareth, to a virgin who was betrothed to a man whose name was Joseph and from the house of David. The name of this virgin was Mary.” Saint Gabriel came to her he said, “Rejoice, O full of grace, God is with you” she was troubled at his saying, and considered what manner of greeting this was. Then, he said to her, “Fear not, O Mary, for you have found grace with God. You shall conceive and bear a son. His Name shall be called ‘Jesus.’ He shall be great and shall be called the ‘Son of the Highest.’ The Lord God shall give Him the throne of His father David. He shall reign over the house of Jacob forever and to His kingdom there shall be no end.”

Saint Mary answered and said to him, “How can I conceive, since I have never known man?” The Angel answered and said to her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Highest will overshadow you; therefore, also, that Holy One who is to be born will be called the Son of God. Now indeed, Elizabeth your relative has also conceived a son in her old age; and this is now the sixth month for her who was called barren. For with God nothing will be impossible.” Then he gave her the sign of the truth of his Annunciation. He then said, “Behold, Elisabeth, your kinswoman, who was called barren, has conceived in her maturity, and in old age; for nothing is impossible with God.” Saint Mary forthwith answered and said, “Behold the maidservant of the Lord! Let it be to me according to your word.” (Luke 1:28-38)

It is beyond human’s mind how the Son of God was born from Virgin Saint Mary; but one could only say “it is a miraculous work of God.”

Above all creatures, the heavenly and worldly ones, even exceeding the angels, Saint Mary stands at the right side of God. She is bestowed the power of intercession and mediation for those seeking mercy, salvation and blessings. Saint David said accord, “At your hand stands the queen in gold from Ophir.” (Psalm 45:9)

We call our Holy Mother “The Queen of Heavens.” This name is also inferred with “the Highest Heaven/ Tsriha Ariam/ which above all the heavens amongst the creation of God. The highest heaven is the resemblance of Saint Mary.

The Mother of God was chosen to be His abode not for only to be honored more than any creature, but become the ladder in reaching the Lord through the redemption made through her. The Almighty God made her His Mother and gave to us as our Mother as well. “Behold your mother.” (John 19:27). We compare her with the ladder of Jacob as stated, “That ladder which “was set up on the earth, and its top reached to heaven.” (Genesis 28:12)

The Amharic name we refer to Our Holy Mother Saint Virgin Mary is the clarification for this. “Mariam” means “She who leads to Kingdom of Heaven.” Her prayer never fails and her intercession is the hope to our salvation. Anyone who calls her name and pleads for mercy and repents, she aids him on the truth path to the God’s Kingdom.

Our Lord mercifully has given our Holy Mother a vow on the sixteenth day of The Month of Yekatit. If we feed the hungered, fetch water for the thirsted, clothed the bare, help the elderly and treat the sick, she will stand for us at the time of trail on our departure day.

May her prayer, intercession and Mediation be with us, Amen!
