“I am the Almighty God” (Genesis 17:1)

May 14, 2021

Torah, the first section of the bible, pioneered the name of the Almighty God; in particular to Genesis, “When Abram was ninety-nine years old, the Lord appeared to Abram and said to him, “I am Almighty God; walk before Me and be blameless.” (Genesis 17:1)

God is Almighty for He created heaven and earth, filled the world full of living and non livings, onwards His creation of archangels from fire and wind, and mankind out of soil. As it is said, “I believe in one God, Father Almighty, creator of heaven and earth, and of all things. I believe in one God, Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth, and of all things visible and invisible. And One Lord Jesus Christ, the only-begotten Son of God, begotten of the Father before all ages; Light of Light, true God of true God, begotten, not created, of one essence with the Father through Whom all things were made. Who for us men and for our salvation came down from heaven and was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary and became man. He was crucified for us under Pontius Pilate, and suffered and was buried; And He rose on the third day, according to the Scriptures. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father; And He will come again with glory to judge the living and dead. His kingdom shall have no end. And in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the Creator of life, Who proceeds from the Father, Who together with the Father and the Son is worshipped and glorified, Who spoke through the prophets. In one, Holy and Apostolic Church; I confess one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. I look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the age to come; Amen, ” (Nicene Creed). He is the only God (Jude 1:25), the Eternal God (Genesis 21:33), the Everlasting God (Isaiah 40:28), and Creator of all things. (Ecclesiastes 11:5)

The Almighty God is One; “Hear, O Israel: the Lord our God is one God; and you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul and with all your might. And these words which I command you this day shall be placed upon your heart, and you shall teach them to your children, and you shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down and when you rise . . .” (Deuteronomy 6.4–8)

The words of Prophet of Moses are quoted in Holy Bible, followed upon the listing of the Ten Commandments which begin, “I am the Lord your God . . . You shall have no other gods besides me” (Deuteronomy 5.6-7)

The One God of Israel revealed to man the mystery of his name. And Moses said “. . . if they ask me, ‘What is his name?’ what shall I say to them?” God said to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM.” And he said, “Say to the people of Israel, ‘I AM has sent me to you.’ God also said to Moses, “Say to the people of Israel, ‘Yahweh, the God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, the God of Jacob has sent me to you: this is my name forever, and thus I am to be remembered throughout all generations.’” (Exodus 3.13–15)

God’s power being limitless, His miracles are fathomed and countless; “All the inhabitants of the earth are reputed as nothing; He does according to His will in the army of heaven And among the inhabitants of the earth. No one can restrain His hand Or say to Him, “What have You done?” (Daniel 4:35)

The identity of God as Almighty serves to establish the sense of awe and wonder we have toward Him and the realization that He is God above all things without limitation. “God also spoke to Moses and said to him, “I am the Lord. I appeared to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob as God Almighty, but by my name ‘the Lord’ I was not known to them.”  (Exodus 6:2-3)

God’s revelation of His existence is for our guidance, safeguard and salvation. His shield liberates from enemy shell for we enrich eternal life.  In scripted as, “I am the Lord your God, Who brought you out of Egypt and out of the house of bondage. You shall have no other gods besides Me.” (Deuteronomy 5:6)

Israelis were led by Prophet Mosses during their liberation of from Egypt with the will and power of God.  Their faith in God was absolute; Though they altercated the laws of the Almighty, His rules and obligations, He brought them to their homeland for the promise He vowed for the Prophet. As He is the only creator and God, but no other; He order all human race to worship no other.

God is envious father who does not will to allocate His authority to another. During Lord Jesus Christ christen His followers to love Him more than any human relation including parents, children or spouse; He is lifting up the implications of that exclusive love for God. The evangelist affirmed it with his words; “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.” (Matthew 22:37)

Brethren, let us love one another; for God is love, and he who loves is born of God and knows God. He who does not love does not know God; for God is love. The love of God was patented among us that God sent His only-begotten Son into the world, so that we shall live through Him.
