Feast of Ascension

June 9, 2021

Thousands of years before our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ’s birth, Prophet David prophesied His ascension when he announced the Lord’s enthronement at the Father’s right hand; for His ascension was vital in a chain of the fulfillment of the prophecy of the Old and New Testament times. (Psalm 110:1)

Hence, the Feast of Ascension of our Lord Jesus is the commemoration of His bodily ascension into Heaven on the fortieth day after His resurrection.

On His ascension day, He called upon the apostles and said, “Behold, I send the Promise of My Father upon you; but tarry in the city of Jerusalem until you are endued with power from on high.” And He led them out as far as Bethany, and He lifted up His hands and blessed them. Now it came to pass, while He blessed them, that He was parted from them and carried up into heaven. And they worshiped Him, and returned to Jerusalem with great joy.” (Luke 24:49-52)

Then, Lord Jesus commanded them from Jerusalem, but to wait for the “Promise of the Father.” He stated, “You shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now.” (Acts 1:5)

On wards, Lord Jesus’ command, He led the apostles to the Mount of Olives for they would become His witnesses. “In Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth” (Acts 1:8). As the disciples gazed at Him, Lord Jesus lifted up His hands, blessed them, and was covered with a cloud before His ascension to Kingdom of Heaven. (Luke 24:51; Acts 1:9)

The apostles then bowed and honored Him where later on they returned to Jerusalem with a grand delight. Persistently the remain at the temple, praising God. Then two angels appeared to and asked the reason for their gazing into the sky. After, spoke one of the angels amongst, “This same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as you have seen Him going into heaven.” (Acts 1:11)

The ascension of Lord Jesus Christ into Kingdom of heaven is the gist of His coming to this world for fulfilling the promise to first mankind Adam and for the salvation of human race. It approves the end of His redemptive work and the end of His public ministry of words and works. (John 17:4-11; Hebrew. 1:3; 10:12)

Glory be to our Lord God and Savior Jesus Christ!
