The Seven Covenants
Part Three
4.The Covenant of Abraham
In the Old Testament and The New Testament Books of the Holy Bible, no other righteous father is commemorated like father Abraham. Born from the tribe of Terah, he is a wise man who acknowledge his creator by genetic research. Onwards, he became a prominent father known as the father of Jews and gentiles, base of faith and the leader of righteousness.
By the will and order of God, father Abraham was separated from his families and relatives leaving his birthplace in serving God. Then God said to him. “Get out of your country, from your family and from your father’s house, to a land that I will show you.” (Genesis 12:1)
Whilst he was leaving with his wife Sarah in the land of Canaan, he lived by the will of God. Therefore, God was revealed to him and made covenant. “As for Me, behold, My covenant is with you, and you shall be a father of many nations. No longer shall your name be called Abram, but your name shall be Abraham; for I have made you a father of many nations. I will make you exceedingly fruitful; and I will make nations of you, and kings shall come from you. And I will establish My covenant between Me and you and your descendants after you in their generations, for an everlasting covenant, to be God to you and your descendants after you. Also I give to you and your descendants after you the land in which you are a stranger, all the land of Canaan, as an everlasting possession; and I will be their God.” (Genesis 17:3-8)
Then again He talked to him. “As for you, you shall keep My covenant, you and your descendants after you throughout their generations. This is My covenant which you shall keep, between Me and you and your descendants after you: Every male child among you shall be circumcised; 11 and you shall be circumcised in the flesh of your foreskins, and it shall be a sign of the covenant between Me and you. He who is eight days old among you shall be circumcised, every male child in your generations, he who is born in your house or bought with money from any foreigner who is not your descendant. He who is born in your house and he who is bought with your money must be circumcised, and My covenant shall be in your flesh for an everlasting covenant. And the uncircumcised male child, who is not circumcised in the flesh of his foreskin, that person shall be cut off from his people; he has broken My covenant.” (Genesis 17:9-14) By this, God gave Abraham circumcision as a sign of covenant.
5. The Covenant of Moses
Arch Prophet Moses was fortunate child who was saved by the miraculous work of God, from the Pharaoh order for all Hebrew infant to be thrown in to river; raised in the pharaoh house by the hands of his own mother as nanny; then after was called upon by God for he lived holy life and even led out the Israeli from slavery of Egypt and brought to the land of inheritance. Moses is the arch of Prophets, shepherd of Israel, a man of God and a wholly meek person.
After Prophet Moses lead the Israeli from Egyptian slavery for 40 years in dessert, he received the Ark of the Covenant and the ten commandments. At this time God spoke to him; “ “I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. “You shall have no other gods before Me.“You shall not make for yourself a carved image any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth; you shall not bow down to them nor serve them. For I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate Me, but showing mercy to thousands, to those who love Me and keep My commandments. “You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain, for the LORD will not hold him guiltless who takes His name in vain.
“Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the LORD your God. In it you shall do no work: you, nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your male servant, nor your female servant, nor your cattle, nor your stranger who is within your gates. For in six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested the seventh day. Therefore, the LORD blessed the Sabbath day and hallowed it. “Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long upon the land which the LORD your God is giving you. “You shall not murder. “You shall not commit adultery. “You shall not steal. “You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor. “You shall not covet your neighbor’s house; you shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, nor his male servant, nor his female servant, nor his ox, nor his donkey, nor anything that is your neighbor’s.” (Exodus 20:1-17)
Prophet Moses has spoken to God many times and holy scriptures has written about it. Later on finishing the talk with God on Mount Sinai, He gave him the two tablets which carried the commandments written by His own fingers. (Exodus 31:18) It is the will of God for all human race to live by it and inherit His Kingdom. The Covenant we are given through Prophet Moses is what we should fulfill even on the New Testament just as Holy Church teaches.
6.The Covenant of David
The Man after God’s own heart Prophet David’s root is from the Ephrata man Jesse; At his age of boyhood, God chose him from his shepherding from his seven brothers for kingship; he is king who was mighty warrior and wise man in which is wrote the 150 psalms for the numerous service of Holy Church.
Saint David was the basis of the crown, was a righteous, meek and blessed father. God called him from keeping sheep and anointed him King and sworn to him, “Of the fruit of thy body will I set upon thy throne” (Psalm 131 (132):11). Our Lord God gave him this covenant by even swearing about the truth of His words saying, “I will not lie to David.” (Psalm 88 (89):35)
Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ came down from the heavens to liberate us from the slavery of sin and the imprisonment of enemy Satan through becoming Man, His suffering and Crucifixion. The pupil of The New Testament shall commemorate the Lord’s work of salvation and delight as well as walk on the true path He paved for us.
