The Season of Winter

July 5, 2023

Dear Children of God, how are you? How is life with your family and your friends? Are you helping your parents with house chorus (house work) in your break time? Children, as we frequently told you, it is important to understand Christian discipline. As the commandment of God says, “Honor your father and mother” that is to obey their rule in the house and elsewhere. (Exodus 20:12)

Children, today we will teach you about the winter season so follow us attentively. There are four kinds of seasons in our country. The first one is spring, the second is summer, the third is autumn and the fourth is winter. We are now in the fourth season which is the rainy season, winter.

Dear Children, in winter it rains much and the sun comes out rarely. It is a dry season that occurs from Sene 26, Ethiopian Calendar (July 3, Gregorian Calendar) up to Meskerem 25, Ethiopian Calendar (October 5, Gregorian Calendar). It is also cold in this season and so we feel the cool weather until winter comes to an end. The season is characterized by Clouds as well since they are the main source for rain and sometimes lightening occurs.

People usually children like you prefer to spend the time at home during the rainy season winter. But do you know what the farmer do whilst we are at home, wearing warm clothes covered with blankets and drinking hot drinks? They plant seeds on the farm land in the rain. It is the ‘Teff’ that becomes ‘Injera’ for our food.

So you see children, rain is very important for human beings (people) as it grows seeds. If the farmer does not plant the seeds in the rain, we would not have food to eat. It is not only Teff that they grow but also wheat, barley, rice, sorghum, corn, sesame, nug, flax, wool, beans and as such.

After the farmer plant the seeds, they grow following their natural interval. He then reaps and store them in the barn; then after, he contacts sellers in the market so they would sell it to people like us. Tough he might also benefit from the sale of the products, the value of famer for us is big. His work is hard and very important so we should respect farmers and farming.

Dear Children of God, you might have seen sowing, plowing and reaping in the television and thought that it is not hard or important. But, it is a must to understand that the work of farmers farming, is a hard and respected job. It requires, knowledge, labor, patience and steadiness, otherwise no one can perform the work.

Children, we hope after this lesson, you know the value of rain, clouds, farmer and farming because it helps us know how our food is prepared and foremost, we will know that our God is the one who prepares the food for us since without the clouds and rain, the farmer would not be able to collect the seeds planted during the rainy season winter.

Farwell children, we have finished for now and we leave you with our sincere wish for your wellness.
May God be with you, Amen!
