August 2, 2022
Dear Children of God, Greetings to you and gratitude to Almighty God!
Children, how are you? How are you spending this summer season? We hope you are using your leisure time properly!
Dear Children, today we are going to tell you the story about Saint Mesekel Kebra. So be with us!
Children let us first ask you, do you know who King Labella is? If so, good! If not, we need to remind you about the legendary King of Ethiopia, Lalibella who carved rock-hewn churches; and guess who Meskele Kibra is? If you said his wife, you are right!
So children, let us now let us tell you who she is. She was born in Wello, lasta, Bugena from her parents Simon and Sophia. She learned the word of God and about Church since child. So she grew up with good manner, obeying her parents.
When she became a young woman, she married the King of Ethiopia King Lalibella. While she lived with the King, she helped him with her prayer. Saint Meskel Kibra was protected by Angels and she was a wise woman who lived diligently with prayer and fasting. She even built church known as ‘Bete Abba Libanos’. She also taught the word of God to unbelievers and changed them to Christians. There is a monastery found in Tigray city, shirea, in a place called Zoba Mudabay Tabire.
Saint Meskel Kibra has bore a child from the King, whom they named ‘Yitbarek’ to mean ‘let be blessed or Glorified.’ They name their child so that he could become a blessed child who learn word of God and live by obeying his command.
Dear Children of God, our parents give us meaningful name for us to be good child of theirs and of God as well. They might give us names found in the Holy Bible and holy scriptures. The reason for this is for us to be good person as the saints in the story written in the Holy book. We can learn so much from their story. God teach us about good deed, manner, obedience, good heart, patient and spiritual strength through their story.
For example, let us observe what we have learned from the story of Saint Meskel Kibra. First, we learn about good deed and righteousness. She lived through good manner, faith and diligence. She was chosen to be the wife of the prominent King Lalibella of our country who is known all over the world. She even acquire the ability of building Church just as the chosen King.
You see dear children! If we keep the word of God in our heart, it will help us practice it. We need to also read Holy Scriptures and know about the God’s command, Church Liturgy and know about Saints for us to live Christian life.
Farewell children, we end our lesson for now. Hope we meet you well and in peace! Have a good time!
