Holy Trinity in Abraham’s House
Father Abraham lived welcoming guests in his neighborhood including all who came at the crossroad, in a tent he built. Enemy Satan rest not to do evil and in jealousy of his good deed, compassion and humility, thought of putting him to trial. The devil then acted like he was hurt, by erupting his head and standing on the road to Abraham’s house, where he asked the guests to where they were going. When they told him their desire of going to Abraham’s tent, he started pouring out lies after lies. He told them Abraham has seized to welcome guests and even worse, started to rip of clothes and send them. The guests then believed what is said and retuned in sadness. By this scam of the devil, no person willed to visit Abraham. Our Father willed not to eat without guests and thus stayed three days without food.
On the third day, God saw this compassion of him and as it is written on the Book of Genesis (18:1-19), Holy Trinity was revealed to him at the oak tree of mamre by the form of three elderly people. Abraham ran from the tent door to meet them, and bowed himself to the ground, and said, “My Lord, if I have now found favor in Your sight, do not pass on by Your servant. Please let a little water be brought, and wash your feet, and rest yourselves under the tree. And I will bring a morsel of bread, that you may refresh your hearts. After that you may pass by, inasmuch as you have come to your servant.”
They said, “Do as you have said.”
So Abraham hurried into the tent to Sarah and said, “Quickly, make ready three measures of fine meal; knead it and make cakes.” And Abraham ran to the herd, took a tender and good calf, gave it to a young man, and he hastened to prepare it. So he took butter and milk and the calf which he had prepared, and set it before them; and he stood by them under the tree as they ate.”
The eating of Holy Trinity has its own mystery. Though it seemed He ate, revealed by three elderly people, it is not in the attributes of God to eat. Patristic Fathers explains this by an example. They say “saying Holy Trinity eats is like saying butter does not melt inside a fire.” Then the slaughtered calf rose from death and praise God saying, “Glory to The Father, Glory to The Son, Glory to The Holy Spirit.”
On His parting, the Holy Son said, “I will certainly return to you according to the time of life, and behold, Sarah your wife shall have a son.” It might seem about Abraham’s son Isaac at the time, but He was telling him, The Holy Son will save him by becoming man. This history was fulfilled around 2000-1850 B.C. We can learn many things from this story. Let us mention some of them below.
1.The oneness and triune of Holy Trinity
If one asks how His oneness and triune is? It will be appropriate to see the Book of Genesis (18:2-5) for a comprehension. It states “So he lifted his eyes and looked, and behold, three men were standing by him; and when he saw them, he ran from the tent door to meet them.” These words affirm Holy Trinity’s triune.
“He bowed himself to the ground, and said, “My Lord, if I have now found favor in Your sight, do not pass on by Your servant.” These words affirm His oneness. Also “Quickly, make ready three measures of fine meal; knead it and make bread.” The three measures are the resemblance Holy Trinity’s triune. And the one beard, His oneness.
2. It is the day where God told Abraham good news of having a son
The righteous father Abraham is told by God, he will be the father of many but did not have even a one child by then. By the compassion and welcoming of guests, the Lord entered his house as a guest and told him the good news of having a son.
God, as Father Abraham who has compassion heart, donates, perform alms giving and welcome guests daily, will be present in their house, endows children and blesses them.
3. Abraham’s Tent
As our Patristic Fathers interpreted, the tent of Abraham resembles Holy Mother Saint Virgin Mary. Any who passes by rested and was fed in Abraham’s tent. Just like that, Holy Mother is mother of the medicine of soul and body, the eternal abode, real food and drink, Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Thus, she is resembled by Abraham’s tent. At midday, 6 O’ clock, as The Father, The Son and The Holy Spirit entered Abraham’s house, Archangel Saint Gabriel was sent from the Lord to Lady Saint Virgin Mary on the sixth month. (Luke 1:26)
On Hamele 7, as God entered Abraham’s house and blessed him, so will He enter the houses of those who donates, present alms, welcome guests daily and as such. We have also seen His endowment of children to barren and blessing of houses. Today, we shall also feed the hungry, water the thirst, cloth the deprived, present alms, handouts and alike in the living of good thinking like Holy Scriptures teaches us.
May Holy Trinity’s mercy and benevolence be with us; Amen!!!
Glory be to God!
