“God tests the hearts and minds” (Psalm 7:9)
April 12, 2022
No one has the ability of examining the heart, read the thought and see the secrets of the soul except God. This attribute is part of His inestimable knowledge and He alone is Infinite. The Holy Bible confirmed that this quality belongs to only God.
It is written in the Holy Bible as, “Then hear in heaven Your dwelling place, forgive, act and give to everyone according to all his ways, whose heart You know (for You, only You, know the hearts of all the sons of men).” (1 Kings 8:39)
Wise Solomon’s proverbs are also full of these testimonies. He says, “The Lord weighs the hearts” and “The Lord tests the hearts.” (Proverb 21:2, 17:3) In His Psalm, David the Prophet says,” For the righteous God tests the hearts and minds” (Psalm), and “He knows the secrets of the heart.” (Psalm 7:9, 44:21)
In the Book of Jeremiah the Prophet, Lord Jesus Christ says, “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked; who can know it? I, the Lord, search the heart, I test the mind, even to give every man according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings.” The Prophet Jeremiah says, “O Lord of hosts, You who judge righteously, testing the mind and the heart.”(Jeremiah. 17:9, 10, 11:20)
The Prophet Amos says, “Who declares to man what his thought is,..the LORD God of hosts is His name.” (Amos 4:13); and Saint Paul the Apostle says, “Even so we speak, not as pleasing men, but God who tests our hearts.” (1 Thessalonians 2:4)
We can comprehend from these verses about God being the Examiner of hearts, who weighs, tests them and knows their secrets. He is the One who tells man about his thought. He alone knows the hearts of all human beings. He alone is the Examiner of hearts and minds. Nevertheless we see that The Lord Jesus Christ Examines the Heart and Knows the Thought.
Lord Jesus Christ says, “And all the churches shall know that I am He who searches the minds and hearts. And I will give to each one of you according to your works.” (Revelation 2:23) There are many examples in the Gospels which denote that Christ the Lord reads the thoughts and answers them without hearing anything. For instance: it is in scripted in the Holy Gospel about the disciples “reasoning among themselves, saying, “It is because we have taken no bread. ‘But when Jesus perceived it, He said to them, ‘0 you of little faith, why do you reason among yourselves because you have brought no bread?”‘ (Matthew 16:8); (Mk. 8:16,17)
When the Lord said saw the paralytic He said to him, “Your sins are forgiven you.” His words explained about the scribes reasoning in their hearts, saying, “This Man blasphemes!’ But Jesus, knowing their thoughts, said, “Why do you think evil in your hearts? For which is easier…” (Matthew 9:3,4); (Luke 5:21,22); (Mark 2:6,8)
After Lord Jesus Christ healed the demon possessed blind and mute man, and when the Pharisees heard it, they said, “This fellow does not cast out demons except by Beelzebub, the ruler of the demons.’ But Jesus knew their thoughts, and said to them, ‘Every kingdom divided against itself brought to desolation.” (Matthew 12:24,25); (Luke 11: 17)
Whilst Lord Jesus Christ healed the man with the withered hand the scribes and Pharisees watched Him closely, whether He would heal on the Sabbath, that they might find an accusation against Him. But He knew their thoughts, and said to the man.., “I will ask you one thing: Is it lawful on the Sabbath to do good or to do evil?” (Luke 6:7-9)
On another situation, the disciples were tempted by the thought of being great and “A dispute arose among them as to which of them would be greatest. Lord Jesus, perceiving the thought of their heart, took a little child and set him by Him…” (Luke 9:46,47)
In the incident of the sinful woman who washed the Lord’s feet with her tears, the Lord replied to the thoughts of Simon the Pharisee. The Gospel says, “Now when the Pharisee who had invited Him saw this, he spoke to himself, saying, “This Man, if He were a prophet, would know who and what manner of woman this is who is touching Him, for she is a sinner. And Jesus answered and said to him…” (Luke 7:39,40)
With regard to Lord Jesus Christ knowing the unseen, we give as examples:
(i) The Lord’s words to Peter about the hook and the starter (the exact temple tax for two) (Matthew 17:27)
(ii) The Lord’s knowledge of Thomas’s doubting and discourse with the other Apostles (John 20:27).
(iii) The Lord’s knowledge of the death of Lazarus. (John 11: 11)
(iv) The Lord’s knowledge of what had happened to Nathaniel under the fig tree. (John 1:47-50)
(v) The Lord’s knowledge of the past life of the Samaritan woman. (John 4:18)
Leaving aside Lord Jesus Christ’s knowledge of the unseen and talk only about His knowledge of man’s thought.
(1) The Holy Bible says, “For the righteous God tests the hearts and minds” (Psalm 7:9) and the Lord Jesus Christ says “And all the churches shall know that I am He who searches the minds and hearts” (Revelation. 2:23)
(2) The Holy Bible says distinctly about God, “For You, only You, know the hearts of all the sons of men.” (1 Kings 8:39) it has been proved that Lord Jesus Christ has read the thought and known the secrets of hearts and souls.
