Demera: the Building of huge Bonfire

The term Demera is coined from Ge’ez verb to mean ‘unity, gathering…’ to describe the collection of woods to make bonfire. Community elders come to the arena, called Meskel Square holding of single woods to build Demera bonfire on the eve of Meskel (Finding of the True Cross).

The Miracle with the Icon of St Mary (Tsedenya)

On this day was revealed the miracle of our Lady Mary in the city of Tsedenya when oil dropped from the tablet with her portrait [painted] upon it as if it had been clothed with flesh.  Now, it is said that Luke the evangelist painted this portrait.

The End of the Rainy Season

Mahibere Kidusan (MK) undertook its 12th general assembly for three consecutive days from September 3 – 5/ 2016. The biennial deliberation on performance involved a series of intensive discussions that continued day and night.
 

The Departure of Abune Tekle Haymanot

St Tekle Haymanot was born in Zorare, a district in Selale which lies on the eastern edge of Shewa in December 24, 1192. He was the son of the priest Tsega Zeab ("Gift of Faith") and his wife Egzi’e Haraya ("Choice of God"). Tekle Haymanot was born after his parents, who had failed to have children, pledged their firstborn to God.
