Archdeacon and Protomartyr Saint Stephen
The Archdeacon and Protomartyr Stephen was the eldest of the seven deacons, appointed by the Apostles themselves, on Tikmet 17, to oversee charity in the early Jerusalem church, according to the “Book of Acts.” Therefore, he is called “archdeacon.”
He was a Hellenistic Jew, filled with faith and the Holy Spirit, who performed miracles and preached boldly. It was here his opposers accused him in falsity which lead to his trial before the Sanhedrin, and death by stoning. He has received martyrdom on his birthday Tir 1st, which he vision Lord Jesus standing at God’s right hand. He saw the Holy Trinity in His Glory in the heavens.
May Saint Stephen’s prayer, intercession and mediation be with us; Amen!
