“Behold, Save us now!”
The Sabbath that Our Lord and Savior Jesus came to Jerusalem sitting on a donkey known as “Hosanna” meaning “Behold, save us now!”, is a feast which all in the name of Christian celebrates.
The Holy Bible states it as follows: – “Now when they drew near Jerusalem, and came to Bethphage, at the Mount of Olives, then Jesus sent two disciples, saying to them, “Go into the village opposite you, and immediately you will find a donkey tied, and a colt with her. Loose them and bring them to Me. And if anyone says anything to you, you shall say, ‘The Lord has need of them,’ and immediately he will send them.”
All this was done that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying: “Tell the daughter of Zion, ‘Behold, your King is coming to you, lowly, and sitting on a donkey, A colt, the foal of a donkey.’”
So the disciples went and did as Jesus commanded them. They brought the donkey and the colt, laid their clothes on them, and set Him on them. And a very great multitude spread their clothes on the road; others cut down branches from the trees and spread them on the road. Then the multitudes who went before and those who followed cried out, saying: “Hosanna to the Son of David! ‘Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!’ Hosanna in the highest!” And when He had come into Jerusalem, all the city was moved, saying, “Who is this?” So the multitudes said, “This is Jesus, the prophet from Nazareth of Galilee.” (Matthew 21:1-11)
Our Lord Jesus Christ ordering the disciples to bring the donkey and colt by loosening them, signifies the time of humans to be liberated from sinfulness. This day where the Lord entered to Jerusalem, is the declaration of our liberty from the enemy Satan and devious world. He has saddened and cried for the city He was born in knowing her future to be in conflict, war and devoid of peace.
The Lord’s coming to Jerusalem by riding a donkey signifies Him being “The King of Peace.” It is His way of saying, “I came to give you real peace.” As He promised, was crucified upon the cross for our salvation, freedom and world peace.
The globe is now in chaos craving for peace. World countries are in conflict, war and commotion for complicated political, social and economic matters. It is the prophecy done that our Lord Jesus Christ told the disciples on the Mount of Olive. We are killing one another betraying our faith. Cruelty, hatred and love of money has consumed our conscious, heart and ambience. We do not have desire for goodness or righteousness. Preferring the evil and comfort of the world, our conscious leans on the deviousness which the world invites or tempts.
It seems like human race have lost our personhood and tuned in to monsters living an animalist life. No one appears to have the interest for Christianity and spirituality in embracing heavenly life, enduring all the pain, sorrow and tribulations the world put upon us. We are even accepting the evil as a good and righteous deed accord to our abundant sin which consumed us, turning our personhood into evil. Our sinful act is what resulted the constant occurrence of tribal and national conflicts, turmoil’s, social chaos, spreading of pandemic diseases and world wars. These all being the signs of the second coming of The Lord, it is only the beginning as Lord Jesus Christ said. (Mark 13፡3-37)
Dear Brethren! it is therefore better to ask ourselves if the path we chose for the comfort of our corporeal is worthy than the eternal life our Lord gave us by His life sacrificed upon the cross. The delicious food and beverages we consume daily, the branded and fashionable clothing we wear occasionally, the most expensive house and cars we own, are vain and could be destroyed within minutes or hours. It is just a matter of timing, but the Lord has given us free will and choice for better and heavenly life. Otherwise, it is the decision of our destiny. We could choose our body but lose our soul; or else have the will to walk on the true path, bearing all the misery, agony and travail for the salvation of our soul.
The true path that our Lord paved for us is not only a way for our salvation, but also a good, peaceful and loveable life even on earth. If we are to be kind, generous, humble and obedient, we could be bestowed a real life, living prosperously with God by our side. The stories of our forefathers Abraham, Jacob, Isaac and all the chosen Kings including Prophet David, Wise Solomon and even Ethiopian Kings Fasiledes, Na’akueto La’ab, Yemrehanna Kristos, Lalibella and other’s dynasty was filled with love, peace and virtue.
Unfortunate to this generation though, we are in dearth of love, peace and harmony, led by heresy governors without the will to rule by the Law of God and order of the Church. Yet, what we seek and crave for is the Lord’s safeguard, peace and unison.
Let us beg our Lord, the King of peace “Behold, save us now!”, upon this feast of Hosanna, if we want our problems to be resolved, have a stable and good life. And He is the only one who can endow eternity and Kingdom of Heaven.
May God’s mercy and benevolence be with us, Amen!
