“My Childhood”
Dear Children of God, how are you? How have you been this past few weeks? How was the holiday of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ’s Baptism? Did you spend it according to the liturgy with your families, relatives, neighbors and friends? Hope you had good and joyful holiday!
Particularly those who are members of the choir of Sunday Schools had the opportunity to be part of the celebration in presenting Yaredic and other songs alongside the Patristics (Religious) Fathers, Priests and Deacons; thus, we assume you had happy holidays. This feast is colorful and different as it is celebrated in public where the Arc of the Covenants escorted by the servile and laities (faithful) held parade (walk).
Children! the feast of Baptism is the holiday for all of us. Our Lord Jesus was baptized for us to be cleansed from any kind of evil (bad) deed (work). This baptism is for all in the name of Christian orthodox. But, today we will tell you about the Baptism that makes us the children of God, which is known as “Childhood”, in the Name of Holy Trinity; The Father, The Son and The Holy Spirit. This liturgy is done in Church at the age of 40 days for boys and 80 days for girls, where we are given the name Christianity.
On our baptism day, we are made to wear white cloth keeping our body hygiene and approach the Priests and Deacons in the temple. Then after, the Priest pray on the water they prepared in the name of Holy Trinity, it becomes a holy water and Holy Spirit surface on it. This water is called “Maye Gebo” in Amharic which is the water that poured out from Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ’s side at the cross when a solider named Longinus pierced Him.
After our baptism, we become the children of God by the Name of the Father, The Son and The Holy Spirit. Unless we do harm and evil deeds, we live our entire life with holiness. But if we sin, we shall be cleansed again with repentance and the Holy water that our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ gave us on His Baptism day on Tir 11, to become children of God and inherit His kingdom. Our Lord Jesus told Nicodemus the Pharisee, ruler of Jews, about it saying, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God.” (John 3:5)
You might have heard about baptism from your parents or have seen the ceremony at the church. It is very important to know about it. Our childhood is the age up to elderliness. It is our life we have with God; It is the kindness, the purity and good heart we are bestowed through the Lord and thus is tasteful as such as honey and milk. This is why our parents and teachers made us sing saying “My Childhood, My Childhood, my honey and milk” at home and school. This is also the reason we call you “Dear Children of God” on each of the lessons prepared and presented in the web page.
Our Childhood is tasteful like honey and milk since it is filled with the love, care, peace, hope, happiness and all the wonderful as well as good things of God. It is clean from any kind harm and evil so, it is the holy life we live under the commandment of God.
Dear Children of God, we shall be apart from all the harmful and evil things in our lives while we are on earth, to live the tasteful life our Lord gave us. If we are children of God, we become good and brave children; our work as well our lives will be blessed. We will have acceptance amongst others. God will also lead us the way under His safeguard. Nothing make us frightened (sacred) as God will be with us. It is by the faith of God we become His children.
As Prophet David said, “Because he has set his love upon Me, therefore I will deliver him; I will set him on high, because he has known My name.” (Psalm 91:14) We must have to be the child of God for a beautiful life here and eternity in the heavens.
May God be with you, Amen!
