The Olivet Discourse
The biblical passage, “The Olivet discourse” is found in the Gospels of Matthew, Mark and Luke. It is a teaching of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on “Mount of Olive”, about His second coming and much more signs before its’ occurrence.
This mount found on the eastern side of Jerusalem, has become the place for the sermon of our Lord about Judgement day. Here, He answered the disciple’s questions when they asked, “Tell us, when will these things be? And what will be the sign of Your coming, and of the end of the age?” (Matthew 24:3) This is the reason our Holy Church naming the fifth week of “The Great Lent,” as “Mount of Olive.”
The “Olivet Discourse,” where Lord Jesus speaks to His disciples about the coming destruction of the temple and events that will unfold in the end times. As Jesus and His disciples leave the temple, one of them admires the grandeur of the structure, but Jesus replies, “Not one stone here will be left on another; everyone will be thrown down.” This prediction shocks His disciples, as the temple was not only a marvel of architecture but also a central symbol of Jewish faith. Jesus goes on to warn that, in the future, there will be wars, earthquakes, famines, and various trials. Yet, He emphasizes that these are merely the “beginning of birth pains,” indicating that these struggles are not the end but part of a greater transformation.
Lord Jesus encourages His followers to remain steadfast amid turmoil, warning them not to be deceived by false messiahs or led astray by fear when troubles arise. Rather than focusing on the signs themselves, He calls them to trust in God’s purpose and maintain faith. This message is a reminder for all believers that, though the world may face times of upheaval, God remains sovereign. Jesus’ words inspire us to have hope and courage, knowing that God’s ultimate plan is unfolding even in challenging times. (Extract sermon on Saint Marks Church, Pennington)
Dear brethren, we are facing trials in each of our lives and soon to be put to punishment. If we keep living in dilemma and fear sinking with love of money and power, it is likely to lose hope entirely for the salvation of our souls. The choice of God’s way, the only path to redemption and inheritance of Kingdom of Heaven is clear for those seeking to know, learn and understand the word of God, the gospel.
Whenever we crave to know our creator, our Lord, Savior and redeemer, we shall go to His holy sacred place, Holy Church and inquire our good thoughts and wishes. His words are light to our darkened home, hope to our life and peace to our mind. Lord Jesus became the light of the world by His crucifixion upon the cross and resurrection. He triumphed on death and evil with His holy cross, gave us peace and eternal life.
Discerning all this truth, we must have faith, hope and diligence in living the real life that our Lord gave us and inherit His Kingdom. It shall be our good will to follow the path through prayer, fasting and diligence to become God’s children and live eternal life with Him.
May God’s mercy and benevolence be with us, Amen!
