The sick man is healed!
Aliments, illness and pain are health disaster incidence in people’s lives. The entire human race onwards the insolent of Adam, façades this trial as the Holy Bible states. When Adam and Eve ate the forbidden fruit, curse came upon them and suffering in various kinds of diseases is amongst. (Genesis 3:16-19)
The doctrine of creation states people suffering by illness and pain since then. One way or another, forefathers and mothers through this life path have been consumed by such agony and misery. There are some who were cured as He said, “I will take sickness away from the midst of you.” (Exodus 23:25) Others departed from this world after severe misery and anguish embedded without nurturer.
Let us mention one story in scripted in the Book of New Testament. Saint John’s gospel (5:2-9) narrates about an impotent man who was embedded for 38 years and healed by the miracle of our Lord. Accord, the fourth week of “The Great Lent” is named “Metsagu/The Impotent Man/.”
At the age of Lord and Savior Jesus Christ appearance in Jerusalem, He reached at the Sheep Gate a pool, which is called in Hebrew, “Bethesda”, having five porches. He then found great multitude of sick people, blind, lame and paralyzed, waiting for the moving of the water. An Angel of God comes down at a certain time into the pool and stirred up the water. Whoever stepped in first, after the stirring of the water, use to be cured from any disease. Midst the sick people, our Lord saw this impotent man whom, due to the severity of his disease, lost his name and be called “Mestagu/the impotent man/.”
After this, our Lord got closer to him and asked, “Do you want to be made well?” The sick man answered Him, “Sir, I have no man to put me into the pool when the water is stirred up; but while I am coming, another steps down before me.” Jesus said to him, “Rise, take up your bed and walk.” And immediately the man was made well, took up his bed, and walked.” (John 5:1-9)
Unfortunate though, when the sick man is asked by the Jews who healed him, he was not able to know. Our Lord Jesus had disappeared within the people gathered there. Then after, Lord found the sick man in the temple and said, “See, you have been made well. Sin no more, lest a worse thing come upon you.” (John 5:14) The impotent man saw Him and told the Jews it was the Lord who healed him.
Therefore, the Jews seek to hunt and capture the Lord Jesus. They accused Him of healing on Sabbath which was considered to defying God’s law in the Old Testament. Knowing this, Lord Jesus said to them, “My Father has been working until now, and I have been working.” This was the reason the Jews hunted to kill Lord Jesus Christ claiming, “He not only broke the Sabbath, but also said that God was His Father, making Himself equal with God.” (John 5:18)
Then Jesus said to them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of Himself, but what He sees the Father do; for whatever He does, the Son also does in like manner. For the Father loves the Son, and shows Him all things that He Himself does; and He will show Him greater works than these, that you may marvel. For as the Father raises the dead and gives life to them, even so the Son gives life to whom He will. For the Father judges no one, but has committed all judgment to the Son, that all should honor the Son just as they honor the Father. He who does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent Him.” (John 5:19-23)
The attainment of both the worldly or eternal life, salvation or healing is through the faith in God and being faithful. What the impotent man was then asked might seem only for the healing of his aliment, our Lord had asked about the salvation of his soul as well. The Question “Do you want to be made well?” was about the sick’s man faith. Even for the cure from his disease, faith was vital as the Lord thought him. Moreover, He made him think about his soul’s salvation.
The Holy Bible tells us the impotent man’s defiance after his healing. He was not able to answer when asked who healed him. (John 5:13) Forgetting what the Lord told him in the temple saying, “See, you have been made well. Sin no more, lest a worse thing come upon you,” he sinned. (no.14)
The hand who hit the Lord’s chick on the fifth day, has dried and thinned.
Beloved ones! It is without a doubt we seek cure for any kinds of pain and disease in time of misery. But what if we are consumed by uncured diseases which the world’s medical professionals and scientist are inept in finding medicine? That will be the time we might expect our death or going to Church and hope to be cured by Holy Water or Holy ointment.
Before all this though, if we always have faith in our God, Lord and savior, living under His merciful shadow, we will be embraced with healing of body and soul instead of giving up hope.
The undeniable truth is affirmed by cured witnesses by Holy water in several Churches and Monasteries. We might have heard about and saw numerous patients healing from uncured diseases such as HIV, AIDS and spreading viruses. It is a recent phenomenon people cured by the Holy water from the spreading and killing disease Corona.
We then shall comprehend from this incidence to live in faith. Otherwise, after getting cure from our bodily pain and disease, we will certainly forget or else defy God. Therefore, let us live diligently in faith!
May the Lord, God accept our prayer, fasting and repentance by His mercy; Amen!
