Holy

Holy Church has made order of Fast and accordingly, the second Sabbath of the “Great Lent” is known as “Holy.” Saint Jared in his Book of Tsome (Fast) Deguua has divided the weeks of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ’s fast and named them each. The second week named as “Holy” is the time of our Lord’s fast commencement in Corinthian Monastery for forty days. What we mean when we say “Holy Week” is “chosen, unique, honored week.” (Book of Geeze Dictionary /Sewasew Wegese/, page 784)

Saint Jared named this week as Holy: –

1. Because it is the first week our Lord started the fast. Soon after His baptism in Jordan river, He went to the monastery to starve for us in regaining back the childhood we lost due to consumption; and deceases the trails of greed and scornfulness. He disappeared from people, went to the dessert, prayed and fasted for Adam and all human race. Thus, Saint Jared called this week “Holy.” (Matthew 4:1-11)

2. It lays on Sabbath: – Our Lord God, midst the ten commandment ordered the Israelis to “Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy,” through the Prophet Mosses. (Exodus 20:8). We say this for two major reasons. The first one is because, this holiday is which the Creator of world and creatures, Holy God, brought forth this universe from non- existence to existence by His word, created mankind from dust and rested; The Israelis were order to keep the Sabbath. (Genesis 2:3)

This day is the venerated day amongst Jews and is celebrated in different from other days. On this day, the Israelis of the Old Testament use to stood still not to sit; stretch their legs devoid of placing it back after the ending of work on the fifth day. It is made order for the Laities of the New Testament.

The second rest day is on which our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ rose from death onwards His crucifixion, defeated enemy Satan, brought back Adam and his race from hell to heaven, and also will come for judgment at end of time. This Sabbath is known as “Christian’s Sabbath.”

The first week of the Great Lent specifically, the first Sabbath is honorable from all the day. Primitively, the world started to be created on this day. Man saw resurrection through it. The ending of the world will also be on that day. On that day, we will enter the Kingdom of God.

May the Lord’ mercy be upon us; Amen!
