The Existence of God
Dear Children of God, how are you? How is life at home and your education at school? Are you doing well in your education and helping your parents by obeying and faithfully living by the Law of God? Good! Hope you have become good and obedient.
Children, the main reason we teach you about religion and the commandments of God, is for you to live through the rule and spiritual life to inherit God’s Kingdom. For this reason, we advise you to learn in church and also our lessons to know the word of God which are guide to our spiritual life. If you remember, we have presented it to you about our Holy Orthodox Incantation (Tewahedo) Religion consequently for the last two weeks. Our current lesson is also about the part of religion, which is “The Existence of God.”
The existence of God is mysterious and no one can define it clearly. But, the Lord Himself has made known to His creatures in various ways. The first was by the Law of Mindset/Mentality/. This was unwritten law to know the existence of God. Our righteous father Abraham become aware of His creator by analyzing creatures the moon, the mountain, fire and the sun. After his discovery, God was revealed to father Abraham and he lived in worship of Him.
Dear Children, creatures of God are also the witness of the Lords existence and presence. In the beginning of the Book of Genesis, we can find these words. “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” (Genesis 1:1)
The righteous Man Job’s words are another witnesses to His existences. He says, “But now ask the beasts, and they will teach you; And the birds of the air, and they will tell you. Or speak to the earth, and it will teach you; And the fish of the sea will explain to you.” (Job 12:7-8) So you see children, even the animals and all other creatures know that God exists.
Prophet Joshua speaks of God being the creator saying, The Holy One of Israel, and his Maker: “Ask Me of things to come concerning My sons; And concerning the work of My hands, you command Me. have made the earth, And created man on it. My hands stretched out the heavens, And all their host I have commanded.” (Joshua 45:11-12)
The manner of creatures of God, is to be mentioned for further witness of God’s existence. The nature of the sun for instance is rising in the east and setting in the west. The light and dark, summer and winter revolve within a year. Their activities witness the existence of Him.
The second law is called “Pentateuch Law.” It is a written law where the Lord was revealed to the Prophet Moses consequently face to face and gave him the ten commandments on Sinai Mountain, for we all could know the Character of Him through His Law and live by the order of the rules. (Exodus 20:1-20)
The Third is the “Law of Gospel” which our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ thought the disciples (students) for three years for all the Christians to know His words and live by them. This Law is the path for all in the name of Christ and become Christians. (Romans 1:16)
Dear Children, we have to keep the laws, particularly the Law of Gospel because we are the generations of the New Testament/Hadis Kidan/. It is our way of knowing our Lord who created us through obedience, faithfulness, good endeavors and diligence.
Children, we cannot see our Lord in our eyes because of the following characters of His.
He is Spirit: – God is Holy Spirit for we say, “The Father, The Son and The Holy Spirit” in our daily prayer just as our holy fathers thought us. We praise Him and make prostration every day because He is the creator of all Who shall be praised by all creatures in heaven and earth.
The Holy Gospel speaks about the Holy Spirit coming down from heaven after Lord Jesus Christ was baptized through a white bird and say, “This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.” (Matthew 3:17)
He is Light
Saint John in his epistles says “God is light,” (1 John 1:5) But the degree of God’s light cannot be defined or speak by any creature’s tongue. We are not able to endure the light and warmness of His creature the sun let alone His own.
He is Fire
As you might know dear children, the heat of a fire is unbearable. No person can be near it. Alike, God is much greater fire without limit that we do not have the ability to be in front of Him. The Book of Hebrew (12:29) states as “God is consuming fire” which describes His Almightiness.
He is Subtle
God is subtle means; He is so delicate or precise and makes it difficult to be analyzed or described. His existence is too vague and mysterious to be seen and known in human eyes. God can be neither seen or nor touched entirely.
The Power of His voice
God’s voice is frightening. As in scripted in the Holy Bible, all who have heard His voice has fallen down on the earth as a dead person and even had to stand up by His support. Prophet David says, “The voice of the Lord is over the waters; The God of glory thunders; The Lord is over many waters. The voice of the Lord is powerful; The voice of the Lord is full of majesty. The voice of the Lord breaks the cedars.” (Psalm 29:3-5)
Dear Children of God, although we are unable to see our Lord who created us, because of the above mentioned truth about His existence, He is known to us as well through His work of the creatures on heaven and earth. We have read about Him in Holy Scriptures and Hagiographies (Book on Life of Saints).
Thus, we have to be aware of His existence, live in fright (respect) and obedience of the commandments, so that He guides and safeguards us throughout our spiritual lives for we could inherit His Kingdom.
