Passion Week <\/strong><\/p>\n

Dear Children of God how are you? Praise to the Almighty for His mercy and will to keep us alive and peace!<\/p>\n

Children, we hope you are well and strong throughout these fasting weeks. How is school and life at home? We assume you are behaving as well as Christian children obeying and respecting you father, mother, siblings and you other elders.<\/p>\n

Dear Children! Today we are going to teach you about the last week of \u2018The Great Fast\u2019 which is called \u2018Passion Week.\u2019<\/p>\n

Passion Week is the\u00a0last\u00a0week\u00a0of \u2018The Great Fast\u2019 which comes after Palm Sunday from\u00a0Monday\u00a0to\u00a0Saturday.<\/p>\n

Children, the days of this week are the remembrance of all the pain that Our Lord Jesus Christ bare to save us. Therefore, during this week we are expected to pray and bow down much begging for mercy from God.<\/p>\n

All\u00a0Christians begin\u00a0bowing from the first day (Monday) which commemorates Lord Jesus Christ\u2019s prayer and bowing\u00a0at Gethsemane before\u00a0 He\u00a0was captured up to the fifth day (Friday) which Lord Jesus Christ was Crucified. (Matthew 26:\u00a039)<\/p>\n

Holy Monday<\/strong> (Anointing of\u00a0Jesus) – The day Lord Jesus Christ preached (taught) in the \u2018Holy Temple\u2019 after He cleansed it from changers around is called \u2018Holy Monday.\u2019 He was praised by local children on this day. He also cursed a fig tree at hit because it didn\u2019t bare any fruit on this Holy Day. (Matthew 21:12\u201322)<\/p>\n

Holy Tuesday <\/strong>(Predictions of\u00a0Jesus)– <\/strong>Lord Jesus was challenged by the Pharisees and Sadducees about issues related with marriage in heaven, paying taxes to Caesar, and the source of His authority in this day. So it is commemorated as \u2018Holy Tuesday.\u2019 (Matthew 21:23-23:39, Mark 11:27-12:44, Luke 20:1-21:4)<\/p>\n

Lord Jesus also explained about donation exemplifying the widow\u2019s (a woman whose husband has died) donation on this day. This story is written in Holy Bible as follows. \u201cJesus sat down opposite the place where the offerings were put\u00a0and watched the crowd putting their money into the temple treasury. Many rich people threw in large amounts.\u00a0But a poor widow came and put in two very small copper coins, worth only a few cents. Calling his disciples to him, Jesus said,\u00a0\u201cTruly I tell you, this poor widow has put more into the treasury than all the others.\u00a0They all gave out of their wealth; but she, out of her poverty, put in everything all she had to live on.\u201d (Mark 12:41-44) After this, Lord Jesus was approached by a number of God-fearing people.<\/p>\n

Holy Wednesday (<\/strong>Betrayal of\u00a0<\/strong>Jesus<\/strong>\u00a0by\u00a0<\/strong>Judas<\/strong>)<\/strong><\/p>\n

The third day of Passion Week is called \u2018Holy Wednesday.\u2019 This day is remembrance of Judas, who spied Lord Jesus for capitulating for Roman soldiers. Judas is identified as a traitor, the one who betrays Jesus.<\/p>\n

Maundy\u00a0Thursday: – <\/strong>Lord Jesus washed the feet of the Apostles on this Holy Day. Accordingly, it is commemorated through\u00a0 the\u00a0 Liturgy\u00a0 service a Holy Church on which the Priest\u00a0washes the\u00a0 feet\u00a0 of\u00a0 the faithful\u00a0saying\u00a0 the \u00a0prayer\u00a0 of\u00a0 thanksgiving.\u00a0(John\u00a013:1-20)<\/p>\n

Dear Children, This day is celebrated our country Ethiopia by preparing \u2018Gulban\u2019 with\u00a0split\u00a0beans\u00a0and\u00a0wheat. The food is prepared in exemplary to the Israelites consuming unleavened bread (baked without leaven\/yeast or baking powder) during their migration from Egyptian. The children of Israel left Egypt hastily and they did not have time for the bread to rise. So it was made on the first Passover (Holiday) without leaven. (Exodus 12:39)<\/p>\n

Gulban is said to be eaten\u00a0in\u00a0order\u00a0to\u00a0mourn for\u00a0Lord Jesus during his capitulation.\u00a0\u00a0This\u00a0is\u00a0in\u00a0keeping the Ethiopian custom\u00a0of\u00a0preparing\u00a0a\u00a0type\u00a0of\u00a0food made\u00a0of\u00a0split\u00a0beans\u00a0called\u00a0\u2018Nefro\u2019 in memorializing the death of beloved ones.<\/p>\n

Good\u00a0Friday:<\/em> <\/strong>Good\u00a0\u00a0 Friday\u00a0 \u00a0is\u00a0\u00a0 the\u00a0\u00a0 day\u00a0\u00a0 Our Lord Jesus Christ was crucified for the salvation (saving people from the punishment of everlasting fire) of human beings. Therefore, all Christians \u00a0 go to Holy Church to plead, bow and commemorate the day that Lord Jesus Christ defeated the scam (bad plan) of enemy Satan.<\/p>\n

All the Holy Icons, instruments and symbols in the Passion Week are publicly\u00a0shown\u00a0covered\u00a0in\u00a0black\u00a0curtain\u00a0in\u00a0the Holy Church. The Priests\u00a0who\u00a0lead\u00a0the ritual wear black\u00a0vestments.\u00a0The entire scared objects including the altar (table where the flesh and the blood of Lord Jesus Christ is served) are also covered with a black cloth in remembering of the dark centuries (years) of Adam\u2019s division from God.<\/p>\n

Holy Saturday: <\/em><\/strong>The\u00a0seventh\u00a0day\u00a0of\u00a0the\u00a0Passion\u00a0Week is \u2018Holy Saturday.\u2019 Saturday\u00a0 \u00a0is known\u00a0 as\u00a0 \u2018kidame\u2019\u00a0 Su\u2018ur\u201d in Amharic to\u00a0<\/em>mean\u00a0 \u2018unobserved\u2019 for unlike\u00a0other\u00a0Saturdays\u00a0 of \u00a0the\u00a0year,\u00a0it\u00a0became \u00a0a\u00a0fasting\u00a0day.\u00a0It is also known to be \u2018Green\u00a0 Saturday\u2019\u00a0for\u00a0on this\u00a0day \u00a0the\u00a0 \u2018Sedge\u2019\u00a0 is\u00a0 given\u00a0to the people\u00a0 as\u00a0 the\u00a0 symbol\u00a0 of\u00a0 good\u00a0 news.<\/p>\n

Dear Children, be reminded that during Passion week Priests\u00a0do not give\u00a0blessings\u00a0to\u00a0the\u00a0believers, we are prohibited to kiss\u00a0the\u00a0Holy and Greetings amongst Christians is also inhibited as a remembrance of Judas\u2019s betrayal of Lord after he kissed Him.\u00a0The\u00a0Priests\u00a0start\u00a0blessing\u00a0their\u00a0children\u00a0by\u00a0the\u00a0cross\u00a0at\u00a0the\u00a0dawn\u00a0of\u00a0Friday\u00a0when because Lord Jesus\u00a0liberated\u00a0Adam\u00a0who was imprisoned by Devil.<\/p>\n

Dear Children! Be aware of this Liturgy and spend your time of these five days at Holy Church.<\/p>\n
