He it was whom our Lord Jesus Christ praised, and he it was who bowed to Him when He was in his mother\u2019s womb, and it was meet for him to lay his hand upon the head of the Son of the Living God.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">As written in the Holy Gospel, when the days of the conception of Elisabeth were fulfilled that she should bring forth, she brought forth a son.\u00a0 And her neighbors and kinsfolk heard that God had multiplied His mercy to her and they rejoiced with her.\u00a0 And when the eighth day came one arrived to circumcise the boy, and he called him by the name of his father Zacharias; But his mother said, \u201cNo, he shall be called \u2018John.\u201d Then, they said to her, \u201cNone of thy kinsfolk is called by this name,\u201d so, they asked his father and said to him, \u201cWhat do you wish him to be called?\u201d \u00a0And he wrote, saying, \u201cHis name is John.\u201d Right then he regained back his vocal and his tongue was loosed from his deafness. \u00a0After, he praised God, and prophesied concerning his son, that he should be called the \u201cProphet of the Highest,\u201d and \u201che shall go before the face of the Lord to prepare His way.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">When his second year was completed, the stargazers\u00a0 came and\u00a0 Herod\u00a0 killed\u00a0 the\u00a0 children;\u00a0 By then,\u00a0 one\u00a0 informed\u00a0 Herod\u00a0 about\u00a0 this prophet, and his soldiers searched to kill him. \u00a0His father Zacharias and carried him on his shoulders and asked them to come with him into the sanctuary. He laid his child upon the horn of the altar, and said to them, \u201cTake him from here.\u201d \u00a0Suddenly, the angel of God caught up the child, and carried him to a desert, the name of which is Zipata. \u00a0When the soldiers could not find him they became very angry, and so killed Zacharias his father instead. John the Baptist dwelt in the desert until God commanded him to come to the desert of the Jordan, to preach the baptism of our Lord Jesus Christ and to reveal himself to the people of Israel; Even as Malachi the prophet prophesied concerning him, saying, \u201cThat preacher is an angel before the Redeemer, and is in truth the similitude of the angels.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Saint John was full of the Holy Spirit when he was in the womb of his mother, and of him it was said, \u201che shall dwell in the desert, and he shall neither eat bread, nor drink wine, all \u00a0the \u00a0days \u00a0of \u00a0his \u00a0life.\u201d \u00a0Our Lord Jesus Christ witnesses about him saying, \u201cOur Lord Jesus Christ said, \u201cAmong those born of the offspring of women there is none greater than John the Baptist\u201d.\u201d he knew not a woman and committed no sin, neither great nor little.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">He preached in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, and he saw the Holy Spirit descending upon Him from heaven.
